Need Help Making Some Last Minute Essential Oils Gifts

There’s so much to do during the holiday season, that it is easy to forget a few things. It’s those ‘emergency’ gifts, I always forget. That extra box of chocolates for the kindly neighbor down the street, or for that unexpected guest that always seems to appear.

I’ll show you how you can whip up all manner of incredibly fragrant and unique last-minute Essential Oil gifts with a few simple ingredients and supplies.

Rustle something wonderful up in a heartbeat, for even the most ardent Essential Oil lovers in your life. With careful planning, you’ll have an enviable selection of Essential Oils gifts for him and her.

The Best Ingredients For Essential Oil Gifts

The Best Ingredients For Essential Oil Gifts

The last thing you want to do at such a  busy time is to hunt for weird and wonderful ingredients.

Keep these last minute last-minute Essential Oil gifts affordable, and use ingredients that we easily pick up from the pharmacy or local store. You don’t need huge numbers of base ingredients to make a range of different products. Sticking to a handful means you can remain affordable, keep them on hand, and use them up quickly which is always best.

These are my top five Best Base Ingredients For Essential Oils Gifts:

Aqueous Cream

Super easy to get hold of, very durable, and can be eked out to go a very long way. There are organic versions for the more eco-conscious among us, but they can be harder to source and more expensive.

Aqueous cream is perfect for making last-minute Essential Oils gifts, especially moisturizers, night creams, and body lotions.

Shea Butter

Shea Butter is one of the softer butter, say compared to much harder Mango Butter. This softer nature makes it ideal for rich and luxurious Body Butters and Skin Melts.

Its natural versatility means it can be found in everything from Lip Balms, Hand Cream,s, and lotions to even Toilet Paper!

If you buy unrefined, much the better, but it does tend to be very strongly scented and some people aren’t too keen on that. The smell is much less pronounced in refined Shea Butter.

Choose Shea butter for your more luxurious and nourishing Essential Oils gifts.

Beeswax

One of my favorite natural products for Essential Oils gifts, beeswax smells divine and offers an amazing amount of versatility if you are brave enough to get creative with it.

I like a dash of it in the base of my Winter moisturizer for that extra slightly waxy layer of extra protection. Along with a good dollop of honey, it’s just magical for your skin.

It performs brilliantly in heavier creams like hand creams and is the perfect choice to make salves and lip balms.

You can even grab some fat quarters of fabric and your iron and make some beeswax food wraps as an eco-friendly alternative to saran wrap.  I made these one year for friends and family and they went down a storm.

Witch Hazel

Witch hazel is a beautiful astringent and is used in more skincare than you might first realize. A dash in a lotion of moisturizer along with Rose Water brings a freshness to the skin that is hard to get with anything else.

It is used widely in formulae for inflammation and wound care, so is ideal for salves.

You can make wonderful Toners and Micellar Waters from Witch Hazel as well as a myriad of other Essential Oils gifts.

Rose Water

Superbly fragrant and super gentle on your skin, this is up there in my top five skincare ingredients. I get through bottles of the stuff because I use it widely in my skincare and Essential Oils gifts.

It is easy to use, you can’t go too far wrong with it as it is a very forgiving ingredient.

I use it in so many skin care preparations, that I lose count. Perfect for Lotions, Moisturizers, Night Creams, water-based Serums and Toners, Micellar Water, Hand Creams, and …. Well I could just go on….and on.

The Best Carrier Oils for Essential Oils Gifts

The Best Carrier Oils for Essential Oils Gifts

Don’t fall into the trap you having to buy specialist ‘cosmetic’ Carrier Oils. For example, that Avocado oil that you use in the kitchen will happily double in your skincare. So will the Olive Oil and Sunflower oil for that matter. They are packed with gorgeous skin nutrition so you’re not depriving anyone of goodness by choosing those instead.

These are my top three Best Carrier Oils for Essential Oils Gifts:

Extra Virgin Coconut Oil (Solid State)

This oil should be solid at room temperature and melt in contact with heat. In its solid state, it is perfect for use in enriched moisturizers, Night Creams, and Body Butters. It will simply melt like molten velvet into your skin as you apply it, leaving your skin feeling nourished, soft, and supple. Believe it or not, I buy mine from the supermarket, right off the shelf in the food aisle. It’s less than half the price of ‘cosmetic’ versions and performs brilliantly in whatever I seem to chuck at it. This is why I highly recommend it for your last-minute Essential Oils gifts.

If I have some left, I can make flapjacks or protein balls with it. Nom!

Avocado Oil

Avocado oil is super rich so, you only want it to make up about 40% of your overall preparation. A little goes a long way and you get a powerhouse of nutrition in your skincare for your money.

Simply grab a decent bottle from the store. It’s not just for last-minute Essential Oils gifts, you can eat it too! A great addition to both your skincare and your diet. Have leftovers? Avocado oil is ideal for making Vinaigrettes and for tossing salads. To make the most of all the awesome nutritional value it has, it is best not to subject it to heat.

Rosehip Oil

Another absolute powerhouse of Carrier Oil, stuffed with antioxidants and packed with nutrition for your skin. So much so, that you only want it to make up about 5% of your overall preparations for your last-minute Essential Oils gifts.

Want younger-looking, smooth, and supple skin? Want more even skin tone and reduced redness? Want to reduce blackheads, pores, and inflammation? This is the one you want.

Because you need so little, you can buy smaller amounts and combine them with the more affordable Carrier Oils.  If you have some left… trust me, save it for your skin, it’s worth it! Buy it from us if you are ordering your Essential Oil and Fragrance Oils too, as you are unlikely to find it in the average store.

The Best Essential Oils For Essential Oils Gifts

The Best Essential Oils For Essential Oils Gifts

Right then, this is where you need to be canny. It is the Essential Oils that are going to make up the bulk of your budget for your last-minute Essential Oil gifts. Therefore, it pays to plan and consider the type of products you might like to make.

Are you likely to be making last-minute Essential Oil gifts for sleep, like pillow spray or sleep balm? Do you want something more energizing and stimulating? Perhaps, you want rich and decadent Essential Oils for sublime skincare. Just give it some thought first.

Let me explain my thinking behind my choices here for my Best Essential Oils for Essential Oils Gifts. I wanted to put together a handful of Essential Oils that all marry and blend quite nicely with one or more of the collection. This way you can get the very best from the Essential Oils and make them stretch to go a long way.

I also wanted to choose Essential Oils that are quite cost-effective and give you plenty of bang for your buck.

These are my top five Best Essential Oils For Essential Oils Gifts for you to get a great range of products from.

Sweet Orange Essential Oil (Citrus sinensis L)

Beautifully stimulating, fresh, zingy, and wonderfully refreshing. It is the perfect Essential Oil to uplift you, elevate your mood, and make you feel better. I even have a bottle right in front of me now… one whiff and you feel energized and brighter.

Because Sweet Orange Essential Oil, like many cold-pressed Citrus oils, is phototoxic, we do not want to be exposing the skin to direct sunlight (or sunbeds) for about 12 hours after use. Therefore, just be a bit judicious about what you use it in.

It works fabulously in Rollerballs, Diffuser Blends, and Aroma Pendants. I like it in a pre-night out Body Butter laced with a bit of gold mica to make your skin shimmer and shine and appear super smooth and healthy. A perfect gift choice for your last-minute Essential Oils gifts for the party animal in your life.

Blends well with Ginger, Patchouli, Cardamom, Grapefruit, and Lemon.

Safety

    • Do not use it in the first 16 weeks of pregnancy
    • Phototoxic so do not expose the skin to direct sunlight (or sunbeds) for 12 hours after use.

Lavender Essential Oil (Lavandula angustifolia)

Here, we have an Essential Oil that relaxes, calms and helps alleviate your symptoms of stress. Don’t go too heavy-handed with it though because too much can have the opposite effect and be overstimulating. Balance is key here.

Perfect choice for Sleep Balms, Pillow Sprays, Bath Oils, and Meditation Blends.

I like it blended with Patchouli, Ylang and Ylang and Vetiver for a truly effective and rather luxurious night blend. Pop it into Night Creams, Body Butters, and Face Serums for sweet and blissful dreams. It is the perfect choice of last-minute Essential Oils gifts for the person who runs around like a headless chicken looking after everyone else. Give them some well-deserved ‘Me’ time.

Blends well with Patchouli, Rose Geranium, Ginger, Roman Chamomile, and Eucalyptus.

Safety: Do not use it in the first 16 weeks of pregnancy.

IFRA Safety Statement For Lavender (Bulgarian) Essential Oil.

Patchouli Essential Oil (Pogostemon cablin)

Patchouli got a bad rap in the 70s as bikers and hippies used it to cover the smells of their sweaty denim and leathers. I can still smell it in my memory, leather, patchouli, and testosterone.

If you think you don’t like it, give it another chance, blending it as the back note to other Essential Oils like Rose Geranium and ylang-ylang. It does something rather wonderful with that earthy, and also fruity-like scent, mixed with the heady florals and the light green fresh notes of Rose Geranium.

Try it too with the bright zingyness of Sweet Orange, even Lime… Kaffir Lime all the better. Entangle it with spices like Ginger, Cardamom, and Nutmeg for something utterly magical.

I like its serene touch in more relaxing and luxurious products like Sleep Balms, Bath Oils, Perfume Oils, and Body Butters. As a base note, the scent lingers and lasts well on the skin making it perfect for highly fragrant last-minute Essential Oils gifts.

Which is why I can probably still smell it from the 70’s! (Yeah, sadly, I am THAT old)!

Blends well with Lavender, Ginger, Rose Geranium, Sweet Orange, and Nutmeg.

Safety: Do not use it in the first 16 weeks of pregnancy.

IFRA Safety Statement For Patchouli Essential Oil.

Rose Geranium Essential Oil (Pelargonium asperum var roseum)

Bright, fresh, and light. This is a beautiful floral Essential Oil that has those back notes of fresh green. It is used commonly to adulterate Rose Essential Oil and you can always tell when this has happened because you get those notes of green coming through too. But we WANT that here!

Rose Essential Oil is hellishly expensive and Rose Geranium has wonderful, and in some cases quite similar actions to Rose. It is its less expensive cousin, but it is in no way inferior, just different!

Smashing for your skin, at any age, but I like it for teenage and more mature skin. It makes wonderful Toners, Face Serums, Moisturizers, Lotions, Body Butters, Hand Creams…. I could just rattle on here, you get the idea.

It makes incredible skincare for your last-minute Essential Oils gifts. Perfect for teens with spotty skin. It brings a really clean and fresh feeling to any facial treatment.

Blends well with Lavender, Patchouli, Fennel, Helichrysum, and Palmarosa.

Safety: Do not use it in the first 16 weeks of pregnancy.

Ginger Essential Oil (Zingiber officinale)

I never quite understand why Cinnamon grabs the culinary holiday crown from about October onwards when dried Ginger is perhaps used more widely across the world at this time.

Slightly softer in fragrance and more gentle, Ginger makes an exquisite choice for your last-minute Essential Oil gifts. Especially for those among your friends and family who suffer from colds, stiff joints, and muscle aches. It brings its warming nature to proceedings and can bring swift and welcome relief.

Have you got one of those stress heads that is always chewing on antacids? Ginger might be the perfect choice for them. An ideal Essential Oil for settling digestion, as a powerhouse of beneficial actions in that department. Rollerballs and Aroma Pendants might provide an alternative to those antacids.

Blends well with Sweet Orange, Lime, Patchouli, Nutmeg, and Cardamom.

Safety: Do not use it in the first 16 weeks of pregnancy.

The Best Fragrance Oils For Essential Oils Gifts

The Best Fragrance Oils For Essential Oils Gifts

It is easy to think that buying all those gloriously seasonal Fragrance Oils for your last-minute Essential Oil gifts is a good idea. But can I urge you to think beyond the Holiday Season for a moment?

Chances are, unless you have made a one-off use product like  Bath Bombs or Wax Melts, your gift will be used AFTER the Holiday season. It pays to consider Fragrance Oils that will stand up to the changing of the seasons for your last-minute Essential Oils gifts.

Fragrance Oils can do so much more than just be used in your Essential Oil diffuser.

Note On Vinevida Fragrance Oil Variation

The eagle-eyed amongst you may have noticed that Vinevida Fragrance Oils come in two variations. They are both developed for specific purposes and we urge you to use them for those purposes for which they are intended for the best results.

    • DIFFUSER - Made specifically for Cold Air Diffuser or Nebulizing Diffusers. While you can use them in other applications, it is not our recommendation that you do this as the results could be varied. This is due to the difference in production and specific viscosity designed for those delicate machines.
    • SOAPS & CANDLES - This variation was designed for use in skin and body care and for making candles. It stands up to heat processes and so is ideal for making things like Car Freshies too. Choose this variation for your last-minute Essential Oil gifts. (Unless you are making Diffuser blends for CAD of course)!

These are my top three Best Fragrance Oils For Essential Oils Gifts, they can all be blended to create a uniquely, gorgeous scent profile. I wanted you to get real versatility and range in just three Fragrance Oils. Otherwise, the budget just starts dwindling.

Cedarwood & Amber

Cedarwood & Amber has stunning base notes and they bring in those big-hitting, heavier notes. This makes it an ideal choice for Essential Oil gifts for him, like bespoke Shave, Deodorant, Shave Balm, and Beard Oil.

Add some spice with your Ginger Essential Oil, add to the earthy notes with the Patchouli, and just brighten it up with the Sweet Orange Essential Oil.

It will also underpin the other two Fragrance Oils sublimely, just balance them carefully, you need very little to create an absolute sensation.

Fragrance Notes

    • Top: Vanilla
    • Mid: Sandalwood, Patchouli
    • Bottom: Cedarwood, Amber

Fresh Cut Roses

Luscious with the floral depth of Roses and the freshness of cut Roses entwines it all beautifully. Soft woody notes and alluring Musk finish the scent profile masterfully. Of course, it is an incredibly feminine scent so it is perfect for Essential Oils gifts for her.

Ramp up the femininity with those Rose Geranium, Lavender, and Patchouli Essential Oils.

Don’t be fooled by that femininity though, blend it with the other two Fragrance Oils, and something stunning happens. The heavy Base notes of Cedarwood and Amber and the top light notes of Ocean and Sea Salt, elongate the whole profile and turn it into something else. Suddenly you have something that straddles and blurs the gender lines, making it incredibly versatile.

Fragrance Notes

    • Top: Floral
    • Mid: Rose
    • Bottom: Woods, Musk

Ocean Rain

This is a wonderfully unisex Fragrance Oil that blurs those lines beautifully. It doesn’t take much to tip it one way or the other. Or leave it as its perfect, fresh, and gorgeous self.

Light, airy, and zingy with that floral background it lends itself to skincare or toiletries that you might use in the morning to get you going. Start your day with this stunning scent. Add it to Shower Gel bases or Castile Soap. Make a super light After Shower Lotion to dress and run in a hurry.

I think with more time on your hands it would make an incredible Eau De Cologne or Aftershave, but it would need time to evolve in the alcohol base, than you have right now! (Maybe, for next year)?

Lace this with the Ginger or Sweet Orange Essential Oils to warm up the profile. A dash of Lavender Essential Oil will keep it cool and enhance the floral notes. Deepen it right down with Patchouli Essential Oil and Cedarwood and Amber Fragrance Oil. Go uber fem with the Rose Geranium Essential Oil and Fresh Cut Roses Fragrance Oil.

You can make amazing Essential Oil gifts for everyone with Ocean Rain.

Fragrance Notes

    • Top: Crisp notes
    • Mid: Sea salt, Orange
    • Bottom: Rose

Recipes For Last Minute Essential Oils Gifts

Recipes For Last Minute Essential Oils Gifts

I have tried to design these recipes so they don’t cost you an arm and a leg to produce. Also, it can be easier to make them in quantity if you want to. You should easily be able to scale up (or down) the recipes.

They are all highly fragrant and will knock your giftee’s socks off. Prepare for the accolades and compliments. Accept them with grace.

Talking of changing things up….

Just a Note on Swapping and Changing Essential Oils and Fragrance Oils in Recipes

You are of course free to swap and change the Essential Oils and Fragrance Oils in these recipes to suit your needs. However, you MUST check the IFRA safety data for the oils you are using.  I have included the links to the IFRA statements for the oils covered in this article, for your convenience.

Each Essential Oil may be different from another and every Fragrance Oil will be different. You need to check each one and calculate how much you will need.

For instance were you to swap Ginger Essential Oil out for Cinnamon Bark Essential Oil and use the amount stated in the recipe you would be in a world of trouble.

    • Ginger has a maximum safety dilution rate of 3%.
    • Cinnamon Bark has a maximum safety dilution rate of a miniscule 0.07%.

That is a MASSIVE difference and given Cinnamon Bark is a dermal irritant, it might not be a mistake to make, were you to simply substitute one for another without checking the IFRA safety data.

If you are going to swap something, YOU ALWAYS HAVE TO CHECK THE SAFETY DATA!

We are trying to make it easier to work out exactly how much you need to use in your chosen projects. Try out our Vinevida Calculator to make it an absolute doddle for you to work out how much you need for your last-minute Essential Oil gifts!

Let’s crack on with this now and get to the exciting bit - the recipes!

Last Minute Essential Oils Gifts - Luscious Lip Balm

Last Minute Essential Oils Gifts - Luscious Lip Balm

These are brilliant little last-minute Essential Oil gifts for this time of year. So many of us suffer from chapped lips and skin and these are the perfect antidote to dry skin.

If you use a lot of Lip Balm throughout the day, to keep your lips in tip-top condition, reduce the Shea Butter a little and use more Avocado Carrier Oil. It will soften it down a little.

If you cannot apply it too often throughout the day, for whatever reason, you may want it a little bit more waxy or harder. Perhaps, try it with a bit more beeswax.

Don’t be afraid to tinker with it a little to make it your own.

Lip Balm is found in IFRA Category No1 and Fragrance Oils should NOT be used in Lip Balms, only Essential Oils, but you need to check the IFRA data as not all are suitable.

Sweet Orange has quite a low IFRA safety dilution here of just 1.3% so don’t let that catch you out!

This will make 100ml, so you can get 20 x 5ml, 10 x 10ml or 5 x 20ml pots, tubes or tins.

    3. Very slowly add the warmed oils and butter, in a thin steady stream.
Note on adding the molten oils and butters

Go slowly, because if you add it too fast, it can cool too quickly. This can make your Hand Cream base feel 'bitty. This is because small lumps of oil/butter form and are not mixed into the cream base.

The hand cream is still perfectly usable and doesn’t detract from its gorgeousness. When this has happened to me, I have just sold it as hand cream 'with nourishing butter pearls.' It worked too, people were intrigued by the idea of butter pearls.

Finishing The Hand Cream
    1. Once you have combined the aqueous cream and oil/butter mix, let it cool slightly.
    2. After a while give it a good few knocks on the table to try and release some of the air from the mixing process. Take care if you are using a glass or ceramic bowl. Too much air in the mix can cause the hand cream to sink back into the jar over time.
    3. Carefully, dispense your Essential Oils, and thoroughly combine all of the Essential Oils into the mix using the hand mixer.
    4. Give it another few knocks on the table to eliminate any more excess air.
Jarring and Labeling the Hand Cream
    1. Spoon the mix into your jars, and use a jam funnel to help you.
    2. Be sure to clean the rims of any spillages meticulously. Simply because if you screw the lid on top of it, it could cause it to mold.
    3. Clearly label your jars with all the ingredients and instructions for use - especially if they are for gifts.

How To Use:

    1. Do a 24-48 patch test, please.
    2. Apply liberally to the skin of the hands and wrists and massage it into the skin well, paying particular attention to the cut fingernails.
    3. Because this is such a rich and protective cream, don’t use it any more than 2-3 times a day.
    4. Store in a dark, cool place at a consistent and ambient temperature.
