Benefits of Making Your Own Thanksgiving Diffuser Blends
I could go on and on about all the wonderful benefits of making your own Thanksgiving diffuser blends.
I could wax lyrical about having complete control over every ingredient. Or keeping control of a tight budget making the very most of your purchases and eeking out every last ounce of creativity and goodness from your bottles.
I could harp on about how you can stand out from the crowd and be unique by developing your own Thanksgiving diffuser blends. Plauding individuality, innovation, and creativity with your choices. Encouraging you to try new and different oils, and step out of your comfort zone.
I could shout out all the benefits of using pure and natural essential oils to change the mood and atmosphere in your Thanksgiving home. Show you how you can turn a party atmosphere into a calm one at the flick of a diffuser switch.
I could laud all the sustainability positives of making your purchases go further. Learning how to use them for a variety of projects and expanding your skill set and knowledge. I could praise the virtues of buying fewer items that all coordinate with one another to support the desired scent profile.
Or I could just get on with it!
Designing Your Thanksgiving Diffuser Blends
When it comes to designing your Thanksgiving diffuser blends I gave it some serious thought (and some math).
I wanted to give you Thanksgiving diffuser blends that you can use in your diffusers, but also that you can turn into a Body Oil, Foot Scrub, or Sleep Balm with just a few simple ingredients if you want to.
With just a handful of fragrance oil and/or essential oils you can create a whole myriad of projects for Thanksgiving and beyond. It is important to us here at Vinevida that we teach you how to use the sustainability of our products to their fullest.
If you simply just wanted to use them as diffuser blends then you can skip the next bit!
But…
If you want them to be skin safe too, I have to warn it is not as simple as it first appears.
Every fragrance oil has a different IFRA maximum safety data %. They are different too, in almost every category.
If you know from the outset what else you are going to make, it’s simple. Just go with the skin safety data percentage in the recommended product category as your guideline. For instance, if you want to make a Face Cream, it is category 5b. Baby Oil falls into Category 5d and Body Lotion in 5a.
It is when you don’t know what other topical projects you are likely to make that things get harder. You have to go with the lowest safety data percentage given across all likely categories. This can be super low in some fragrance oils and then you might be at risk of not having a strong enough scent.
You can use the Vinevida Calculator to help you work this out but it does get more complicated when you are combining it with other fragrance oils and essential oils. You need to make sure that you are checking the IFRA data for every single component of your Thanksgiving diffuser blend and that you are using them in the right proportions.
Perhaps, we need a separate tutorial on how to work this out in the future. For now, I have done all the math for you in these recipes. Therefore, do NOT tinker with the amounts given in the recipes, please.
Best Essential Oils for Thanksgiving Diffuser Blends
Come with me and let’s explore some of the best essential oils for your exciting Thanksgiving diffuser blends. There will be some old favorites in here but also I’d like to encourage you to try some essential oils that you might not have used before.
Often, people resist buying an essential oil that they feel can only be used in the one recipe they are interested in. I encourage you to explore our blog and find plenty of new and exciting ideas for those essential oils and I have dropped in a handful of links to some of our exciting blog articles. Have fun discovering all manner of new information and easy ideas, tutorials, and recipes too.
Remember, that our essential oils are jam-packed full of chemical constituents with active properties and benefits. They smell amazing, but they will also have a myriad of positive actions upon you as well. The proper value for money, in my mind!
Back to Thanksgiving, what wonders do I have in store for you today?
Nutmeg (Myristica fragrans)
I’m really in love with Nutmeg at the moment and it is top of my list at the moment for your Thanksgiving diffuser blends. It’s beautifully fragrant and spicy but it is not a bully like Cinnamon or Cloves can be. Gently supports other essential oils and fragrances, yet holds its own beautifully.
Wonderful at this time of the year for fighting off bugs and like many other other spice essential oils, killing germs.
Nutmeg is great for digestive issues. Just like we eat mint with Lamb to help us digest it more easily, Nutmeg works in the same way for dairy products. Hence its place in desserts like custards and rice puddings.
Pairs beautifully with Ginger, Sweet Orange, Mandarin, and Frankincense essential oils
Safety:
- Do not use it in the first 16 weeks of pregnancy.
- The Maximum Safety Dilution Rate for topical use is very low at just 0.80%.

Ginger (Zingiber officinale)
The warmth and vibrancy of Ginger is well suited to your Thanksgiving diffuser blends. Again, like Nutmeg, it is no bully and does not fight for supremacy in the scent profile. It adds a beautiful air of warmth, and masterfully blended, it can add an air of mystery and magic at this time of the year.
Its scent notes are multifaceted, making it extremely versatile and an essential oil that is easily blended with others.
Ginger is widely known to support our digestion which is perfect for this time of the year when we are highly likely to over-indulge a little.
Pairs beautifully with Sweet Orange, Mandarin, Black Pepper, and Patchouli essential oils
Safety:
- Do not use it in the first 16 weeks of pregnancy.
Make your bottle of Ginger go further and explore What Is Ginger Essential Oil Good For?
Star Anise (Illicium verum)
Spice fragrances are so beloved at this time of the year because they remind us of the Thanksgivings of yesteryear and bring back happy and joyous memories of heart and home. That is why they are so popular for Thanksgiving diffuser blends.
This essential oil smells incredible and it is a good one for igniting all of those wonderful memories.
Star Anise is great for indigestion and is another of those hard-hitting spice oils as far as bugs and germs are concerned. Ideal if you have a house full of people and want to try to avoid catching any lurgies.
Add that to its wonderfully calming properties and you have a beautifully versatile essential oil.
Pairs beautifully with Ginger and Sweet Orange essential oils and I like the way it sings with the Plum notes in Our Version Of Cherry Blossom By BBW fragrance oil.
Safety:
- Do not use it in the first 16 weeks of pregnancy.
- Not suitable for topical use on children aged under 5
- The Maximum Safety Dilution Rate for topical use is very low at just 1.75%

Sweet Orange (Citrus Sinensis L)
I am probably biased, but I don’t think you can get a much better essential oil for your Thanksgiving diffuser blends than Sweet Orange. Apart from perhaps Mandarin, that is up next.
Clean, bright, refreshing, uplifting, and inspiring joy, what more could you ask for in your home over Thanksgiving? It’s perfect for those feeling stressed, overwhelmed, or a bit fractious. Consider adding a couple of drops of Lavender or Roman Chamomile, if your guests are fizzing with tension. They will soon relax and enjoy themselves.
I like it because it inspires joy, happiness, and positive energy and helps to get the party started!
Pairs beautifully with Ginger, Star Anise, Frankincense essential oil, and all of the fragrance oils listed in the next section.
Eek out every last morsel of goodness from your bottle of Sweet Orange essential oils and discover What Is Sweet Orange Essential Oil Good For? 6 Benefits Of Using Orange Oil On The Regular.
Safety:
- Do not use it in the first 16 weeks of pregnancy.
- Phototoxic so do not expose the skin to direct sunlight (or sunbeds) for 12 hours after use.
Mandarin (Citrus reticulata)
Fresh, vibrant, refreshing, and zingy, who doesn’t like the scent of a glorious Mandarin essential oil? It’s ideal for brightening the atmosphere and creating an inclusive environment.
Now, if you have a delicate flower or two on your Thanksgiving guest list, this is the perfect essential oil choice for you. Thanksgiving diffuser blends with Mandarin as the main component, bringing that joie de vive of Sweet Orange, but in a much gentler and calmer way. Making it ideal for those suffering from anxiety and depression.
It is perfect for those teens or smaller kids who shun larger groups of people. Helping them to manage anxiety levels decreases stress and encourages them to join in. I find it helps with confidence levels too. If you have a bit of stage fright or imposter syndrome this Thanksgiving, then pop this in your basket right now.
Pairs beautifully with Other Citrus oils and spices like Ginger, Nutmeg, and Cinnamon essential oils. I love it with Sandalwood Amyris (Amyris balsamifera), it makes a truly stunning blend with a few drops of Palo Santo and Patchouli too.
Safety:
- Do not use it in the first 16 weeks of pregnancy.
- Phototoxic so do not expose the skin to direct sunlight (or sunbeds) for 12 hours after use.

Honorable mentions
Cinnamon Bark (Cinnamomum Zeylanicum)
Ok, so why have I relegated Cinnamon Bark essential oil as only an honorable mention in my Thanksgiving diffuser blends? Simply because it is used everywhere at this time of the year and right up through the Holiday season and into the New Year…. And people get sick of it.
If you LOVE it, then by all means please use it but I wanted to come up with some different ideas for you and encourage you to try different, yet perfectly lovely, essential oils that you might not have used before.
I also want to be able to show you have to extend your Thanksgiving diffuser blends and use them in other recipes and Cinnamon has an extremely low Maximum Safety Dilution Rate for topical use at just 0.07%.
That means in 100ml of Body Lotion you could only use a maximum of 0.07ml. Which is approximately ONE drop. You are not going to get a strong scent from one drop.
If you just wish to use it in your diffuser and not topically, then by all means, knock yourself out! There are no safety restrictions in IFRA Category 12 for use in Candles and Diffusers.
Safety:
- Do not use it in the first 16 weeks of pregnancy.
- Not be used topically on children 6 and under.
- The Maximum Safety Dilution Rate for topical use is very low at just 0.07%.

I like it with Our Version Of Baies By Diptyque for that fruity, floral edge but on a dark, seductive, and almost erotic note. Perfect for that Thanksgiving meal for two.
Apple Hot Baked Pie
What Thanksgiving diffuser blends would be worth their salt without an Apple-based scent in there somewhere?
It’s that time of year when Apples are at their best, fresh, fragrant, and juicy. Much like the delicious one I have just eaten!
This is one of those more memory-inducing fragrance oils that reminds you of home, family, and Grandma’s legendary Apple Pie. The windfall apples she picked herself, to save them from going to waste, grinding her fresh spices of cloves and cinnamon. Then lacing that pie with a good old dollop of Vanilla. It’s comfort in a bottle.
Fragrance Notes
- Top: Apple
- Mid: Clove bud, Cinnamon
- Bottom: Vanilla bean
Pairs beautifully with Sweet Orange, Mandarin, Nutmeg, Star Anise, and Ginger essential oils. I just love this with a hearty dose of Cardamom essential oil too.
Try it with Our Version Of Santal 33 By Le Labo for a truly different scentsation that elongates that scent profile and turns a comforting scent of home into something distinctly more sophisticated. Use just a tad more Santal and less Apple Pie for the perfect balance.
For something less adventurous, but equally as appetizing, plump for pairing it with Our Version Of Warm Vanilla Sugar By BBW.
Our Version Of Leaves By BBW
Fancy something a little different for your Thanksgiving diffuser blends but still very much echoing Fall? Then Our Version Of Leaves By BBW is just for you.
It is both refreshing and light and deep and Earthy all at once. You can almost feel that sun slipping away and the Winter drawing in, ever closer. You have those unmistakable earthy musk notes of autumn leaves, entangled with the freshness of Cedarleaf, Pine, and Lemon. All rounded off with a gorgeous helping of the spiced fruit prevalent at this time of the year.
Herald Thanksgiving and the changing of the seasons with this incredible fragrance oil and explore ways to blend it.
Fragrance Notes
- Top: Lemon, Cedarleaf
- Mid: Pine, Spiced fruit
- Bottom: Earthy musk
Pairs beautifully with Sweet Orange, Mandarin, and Yuzu essential oils to enhance the citrus element. Try it with Scotch Pine and Fir Needle essential oils to deepen the sense of the forest. Add in spices like Ginger, Nutmeg, and Cinnamon to bring it alive.
Blend it with fragrance oils like Roasted Pine Cone to give a forest-like ambiance and make it more delicious and mouthwatering with Pumpkin Spice or Hot Apple Baked Pie. Weirdly, it goes wonderfully with Fruit Loops fragrance oil too.

- Take care getting in and out of a shower or bath. Use safety rails and non-slip bath mats where available as the soap could make it slippery.
Method:
- Chop 500g of M&P Glycerine Soap into small and even chunks.
- Place in a microwave-proof measuring jug and then cover with a microwavable cover and pop it in the microwave.
- Try and work in one-minute power bursts for at least the first 3 mins.
- Then reduce down to just 30-second power bursts.
- Take care that it does not burn, as it can burn quite easily. It is for this reason that it is best to work in short bursts, to avoid that. If the soap burns, all it is fit for is the bin, so be patient and take your time.
- Stir well, in between the power bursts, to help distribute the heat through the soap more evenly.
- It can take anywhere from 2 to 5 minutes to melt all of your soap evenly, depending on your brand of M&P soap.
- As soon as your soap is fluid and liquid, remove from the microwave and add in your Thanksgiving Gratitude - Thanksgiving Diffuser Blend and combine well.
- This is the time to add your colorant if you are using one. I prefer to use liquid colors to avoid having to mitigate lumps from powdered colorants and introducing air bubbles.
- This is also the best time to add any glitter or mica. Feel free to add botanicals like Lavender flowers, Calendula, or Rose petals, or exfoliants like ground Walnut Shells.
- After mixing well and knocking out any air bubbles, pour carefully into appropriate molds.
- Now, working very quickly, be sure to spray the exposed surface of the soap with Isopropyl alcohol or high-proof Vodka. This helps to burst any surface bubbles and leaves a lovely clear and glossy finish to the soap.
- Make sure to let it set fully before you de-mold them.
Finishing Techniques
- You need to wrap the soaps individually in Saran Wrap or vacuum seal individual bars as they will degrade in contact with the air. Glycerin is a humectant which means it attracts and absorbs water from the air. Which is why you need to cover it up thoroughly.
- Label your soaps clearly with all ingredients for safety reasons.
How to use:
- Do a 24- 48 hour patch test before using.
- Work the soap into a rich and creamy lather and use it to cleanse the skin.
- Rinse off thoroughly in clean, warm water.
