Jojoba carrier oil supports healthy hair growth in a variety of ways. It nourishes the scalp, alleviating dry skin and reducing itchiness, flaky scalp, and dandruff. Balancing the skin pH of the scalp, jojoba reduces inflammation believed to contribute to hair loss and hair thinning. Nourishing new-growth jojoba also conditions the hair, smoothing the cuticles to make the surface look shinier and glossier. Well known for regulating sebum production it balances both very dry and greasy hair. A hair oil with jojoba will improve your hair’s texture and lock in moisture to leave your hair softer, silkier, and more manageable.
The Benefits of Hair Oil With Jojoba
Derived from the seeds of the mature plant, Jojoba oil is a wax rather than an oil. Its chemical structure closely resembles sebum, the oil secreted by the skin to protect it and keep it supple.
Gad (2021) describes the traditional use of jojoba oil as an emollient in scalp disorders like dandruff. His research showed it had promising anti-inflammatory, analgesic, antibacterial, and antiviral activities, all of which are useful for soothing itchy scalps and skin.
Carrier oils, or more correctly termed fixed oils have a huge advantage over essential oils in that they contain a variety of different constituents that will not pass through distillation. For example, Jojoba oil is rich in vitamins B and E, both spectacular superfoods. Additionally, jojoba oil contains iodine, copper, and zinc, components that can improve hair health in a multitude of ways. This oil contains polyunsaturated fats and essential fatty acids ( oleic, gadoleic, and erucic acids), all of which are proven to support healthy cellular growth.
Jojoba oil ranks very low on the comedogenic scale which means it is far less likely to clog your pores than other oils may.
Jojoba is very gentle making it suitable for even hyper-sensitive skins.
Does Jojoba Oil Help With Hair Growth?

Massage with a hair oil with jojoba stimulates hair follicles, encourages new growth, and improves the thickness of the hair shafts to add volume to your locks. Just a few drops of hair oil with jojoba will encourage hair growth, potentially reduce hair loss, and improve the overall condition of your scalp and hair.
Does Jojoba Oil Improve Hydration and Protect My Hair?
If your hair feels frizzy or has become brittle and is suffering from split ends, then a hair oil with jojoba can be transformational, to moisturize, hydrate and protect your hair. This protective quality can also protect your hair from outside dangers like too much sun, heat from styling tools, environmental damage, and daily dirt and grime. Jojoba’s wax quality saturates porous hair to salvage it from the damage done by hair dyes and heat treatments.
It is the perfect moisturizer for hair TLC. Deeply penetrating the hair shaft, jojoba oil also feeds the hair follicles. It makes the hair cuticles more flexible so they sit the right way on the shaft, leaving the hair smoother and shinier. Conditioning with a hair oil with Jojoba can reduce hair breakage and split ends to leave the ends of your hair protected and healthier looking.
The interesting thing about Jojoba oil is that it moderates oil production. This means it is wonderful for dry hair because it encourages the follicles to create more sebum to moisturize the hair. Conversely though, if you suffer from too much grease, jojoba will also calm sebum production down to find a happy medium.
Improve Your Hair Health with a Hair oil with Jojoba

You can create oil for skin and hair or solely a hair oil with Jojoba to help improve the overall health of your scalp, reduce dandruff, and soothe itchy scalps. Use it to boost your overall hair health and give your hair body and texture.
It never fails to shock me rigid how many hair products contain ingredients you cannot even pronounce, especially those for treating skin conditions and dandruff. A great reason to tailor-make your own hair oil with Jojoba is to reduce your exposure to unnecessary toxins and chemicals.
Jojoba oil EWG verified. It has a safety rating of 1, which means it ranks as one of the safest products on the market.
Does Jojoba Oil Improve The Appearance Of My Hair?
Will a simple hair oil with Jojoba improve the appearance of your hair? Absolutely! With regular use, hair oil can promote healthy hair growth and improve how it feels and looks.
How many of us are using hair care products that reduce frizz, tame flyaways, and reduce split ends? A great many of us, I would guess. All we need is a few drops of Jojoba oil to do the very same job! This can be a godsend for those who are working on tight budgets and need skin and hair products that deliver more than one use.
A tailor-made hair oil with Jojoba can improve the texture of your hair, reducing flyaways and frizz, smoothing cuticles, and improving shine and how your hair falls and feels.
Remember, it’s going to start at the hair follicles, strengthening them and their regenerative abilities, it’s going to protect new hair, and reduce porosity, breakage, damage, and environmental build-up. Over time, it is going to protect the cuticles and smooth them beautifully for strong, glossy, textured hair.
Jojoba oil is a lovely and light carrier and can be wonderful for curly hair, making it part of your natural hair care routine if you are a curly hair type, for strong shiny hair without being weighed down.
How to Use Hair Oil With Jojoba

Don’t wash your hair every day, it’s the worst thing you can do to do your hair unless of course you are working in dirty, dusty, greasy, or oily environments and your hair holds on to it at the end of the day.
My hair and scalp health improved drastically moving from washing my hair every day to every third day. Use dry shampoo on the morning of the third day to absorb any excess sebum and refresh greasy spots. Change your hair care regimen to this frequency and you won’t look back!
You can use your hair oil with Jojoba as a leave-in conditioner, simply work the oil evenly onto wet or dry hair to nourish and hydrate it and help protect it from daily rigors and pollutants.
The heat from hot towels or hair wraps will help the oils to penetrate the hair follicles and the shaft of the hair, so always try to add some heat to boost the efficacy of your hair oil with Jojoba.
Simply wash it out with your normal shampoo and condition it if it feels necessary. You may find that the Strong and Shiny Hair Oil With Jojoba will absorb itself completely and will not need washing out. See how your hair responds to it as we are all different, and so is our hair.
Make Your Hair Oil With Jojoba Even Better!
We can make fabulous hair oil with Jojoba alone, but we can also pair it with other nutrient-rich carrier oils to create tailor-made hair oils, suited to our hair and skin type.
It’s already popular with the TikTok crowd to mix Grapeseed and Jojoba oil for hair oils and masques. While I love the idea of hair oil with Jojoba and Grapeseed, I can think of other more nourishing carrier oils I’d choose first.
Argan
When you are wondering what to mix with Jojoba oil for hair that feels dehydrated, dry, and in need of some moisture, look no further than Argan oil. Argan oil makes a first-class choice for your bespoke hair oil with Jojoba because it is bursting with goodness.
Used for thousands of years in its indigenous Morocco for hydrating, nourishing, and protecting skin and hair. It rose to the international stage in the 1990s and has become the mainstay of hair and beauty products sold across the world today.
However, we do need to make sure that we are sourcing sustainable Argan oil that supports the indigenous communities that collect and produce it. Given that the Argania Spinosa trees only grow in one region of southwest Morocco in the desert scrubs around Essaouira and Agadir, we must protect the trees and their delicate habitat from over-harvesting and exploitation.
Argan oil boosts a healthy composition of 80% essential fatty acids mainly made up of skin-softening antioxidants Omega 6 & 9. Talking of antioxidants, it has twice as much Vitamin E as Olive oil and we can use this for smoother, stronger hair which is less prone to breaking and split ends. Its strong antioxidant qualities offer environmental protection and extra hair-strengthening qualities.
Argan pretty much sinks into the hair in totality so it does not leave any greasy, oily residue. Used as an overnight hair treatment, you will wake up to thicker, shiner hair, glowing with vitality.
If you pushed me for my favorite carrier oil to create a tailor-made hair oil with Jojoba, it would be Argan oil all the way.
Coconut MCT
Coconut MCT carrier oil is perfect for pairing in hair oil with Jojoba. Coconut MCT is liquid at room temperature because it has gone through a chemical process. It turns an oil into a beautifully silky and light ester, that is less likely to stain your clothes or your pillowslips if you do an overnight hair oil treatment.
This also makes it a lovely carrier oil for creating hair oil treatments for head massages, as it will wash out so much more readily than other oils, such as Castor oil.
Its soothing nature and anti-inflammatory constituents make it great for relieving itchy scalps and for tackling dandruff. It’s light enough for use even on greasy hair and won’t weigh down curly hair either. Its light nature is perfect for adding extra volume to hair alongside boosting shine and manageability.
It may be as light as a feather on your hair but it’s super rich in those MCT - medium chain triglycerides making it rich and nourishing, especially for brittle, damaged hair, like hair that has been chemically treated or colored.
Consider Coconut MCT for your tailor-made hair oil with Jojoba, especially if you need its light, but rich touch.
Castor Oil
If you have concerns over hair growth, or your rate of hair growth, consider pairing Castor oil in your hair oil with Jojoba. Castor oil is brimming with a constituent called Ricinoleic acid which is an unsaturated omega-9 fatty acid.. It will also balance the pH of the scalp and hair.
Ayurvedic practitioners for centuries have been using Castor oil to stimulate hair growth and reduce hair loss. More recently, the TikTok generation is reporting up to three to five times the rate of their normal hair growth, simply using twice a week over a month. No wonder it’s the new craze suddenly! Science and research have yet to catch up with these claims.
Science however backs the anecdotal Ayurvedic evidence for using Castor oil for irritated, flaky, and itchy skin and scalp conditions like dandruff, folliculitis, and seborrheic dermatitis. This is believed to be thanks to the pH balancing ricinoleic acid and oleic acids.
It’s an amazing oil for hair, nourishing both hair and scalp and helping to lock in hydration and improving the moisture of the hair. Moisturized hair is stronger hair and less prone to breakage and damage.
Hair oil with Jojoba and Castor oil will smooth the cuticle of the hair and lubricate it to reduce the appearance of frizz and split ends. It will boost shine, for hair glowing with health and vitality. Making it a great choice for damaged, over-processed, and curly hair.
Castor oil is also a wonderful oil for skin care and for pain relief. Find out more in Castor Oil Packs and Belly Button Therapy for Detox and Pain Relief.
Tamanu - Dandruff
If you have dandruff, a damaged scalp, or an itchy or flaky scalp add Tamanuinto your hair oil with Jojoba. It has wonderful skin healing qualities thanks to its constituents.
Tamanu oil contains antioxidant constituents to protect our hair from environmental pollution and sun damage.
It has a wonderful bright green celery-like scent that I like. It pairs wonderfully with antimicrobial and antifungal herbs and shrubs like Thyme, Oregano, Eucalyptus, and Tea Tree. It can be a welcome addition for men who want a more masculine hair oil with Jojoba oil and Tamanu oil.
Add Essential Oils Into You Hair Oil With Jojoba
Add in essential oils to further improve the efficacy of your hair oil with Jojoba. A study by Gruber (2023) also demonstrated that Jojoba oil helped skin care components like retinol, permeate deeper into the skin, than when they were used alone. From this, we can be reassured that Jojoba not only penetrates skin and hair follicles to a deep level but that if we add other supportive ingredients like essential oils, these too will be carried deeper than perhaps they otherwise might have been.
Using essential oils is another way that you can completely tailor-make a bespoke hair oil with Jojoba suited entirely to your own needs.
Rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis)
Rosemary has a long history of being used to smooth hair and create shine in hair oil with Jojoba and other carrier oils, as well as hair rinses and shine products.
As a herb, it has been used for millennia for hair care and it is well known for giving super soft and shiny hair when you use it as a herbal infusion as your final rinse. While Rosemary, the herb, and the essential oil, are revolutionary ingredients for your hair care, we do have to exercise a little caution with products that contain Rosemary essential oil, as it has a few contraindications. See the safety section below.
Hay (1998) found that 44% of patients in his trial reported improved hair growth when using a combination of Grapeseed and Jojoba carrier oils with Rosemary, Thyme, Cedarwood, and Lavender. Versus those that did not.
It is an essential oil that works to stimulate the hair follicles and this is why we think it is associated with improved hair growth. Sadly, there has been little research into this to support the theory. However, there is global anecdotal evidence by users to extol its virtues for stimulating hair growth and for the new growth to be strong, shiny, and full of vigor and life.
I suggest using hair oil with Jojoba and Rosemary in the morning, due to the stimulant nature of the essential oil.
Please check the safety data before including Rosemary essential oil into your bespoke hair oil with Jojoba
Safety:
-
- Rosemary contains constituents proven to be pro-convulsive for some people, be cautious with this essential oil if you have epilepsy.

Himalayan Cedarwood (Cedrus deodara)
An essential oil that I would highly recommend for your hair oil with Jojoba would be Himalayan Cedarwood.
It has strong anti-inflammatory qualities that can soothe inflammation, redness, and irritation to the scalp and hair follicles. It’s interesting to note that they think inflamed hair follicles from systemic inflammation in the body, may contribute to hair loss. This makes sense in inflammatory-based conditions, where hair thinning and loss are prevalent, like Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome.
Remember the study by Hay (1998) mentioned above? Cedarwood was part of the trial that saw a marked increase in hair growth among people with alopecia areata.
The more we can reduce scalp inflammation, the better! You may be noticing a theme throughout, that most of these carrier oils and essential oils have anti-inflammatory qualities for good reason.
Cedarwood is also a powerful circulatory stimulant that can increase blood flow and stimulate our hair follicles to get that hair growth kicked into action.
Cedarwood has wonderful astringent qualities that can remove build-up from products and excess sebum, leaving hair smooth, shiny, and manageable. Its anti-fungal qualities can be used to address the symptoms of eczema, psoriasis, and dermatitis. Use its insecticide qualities to kick head lice or biting bugs into touch.
A Cedarwood hair oil with Jojoba is going to offer your skin and hair numerous health benefits.
Ylang Ylang (Cananga Odorata)
If you are stressed, anxious, or navigating a worrisome time in your life, reach for Ylang Ylang. It is amazing at balancing our well-being, but also our hormones.
Hair loss and hair thinning are often attributed to stress-related and hormonal conditions. The more we can do to keep our hormones and our stress in check, the better it is going to be for our hair.
Like Jojoba, Ylang-ylang essential oil is great at regulating and balancing our sebaceous secretions. This can prove a powerhouse combination for those of us with very dry hair or greasy hair that needs a healthier balance of sebum production.
I suggest using hair oil with Jojoba and ylang-ylang in the evening because it can be wonderful to help you unwind, relinquish your worries, and drift off into dreamland. Why not pair it with hair-friendly Chamomile and soothing Lavender for a multi-purpose hair mask and scalp massage oil?

Any Downsides To Using Hair Oil With Jojoba?
Not really, no. However, we do need to consider very minor Jojoba oil for hair side effects and contraindications. If you have contact dermatitis, you should exercise a little caution and always do a patch test before using it.
Allergies to Jojoba oil are pretty rare, but if you do think you might be sensitive or allergic to it, cease use immediately, and seek immediate medical attention if you experience any severe allergic reactions.
