NO. 1012 fragrance oil evokes the mystery of time’s passage, from dawn to dusk, watching it from your beachside cabana.
The light morning marine mist is made fresh and sharp by ethereal wisps of citrus and tones of green Bergamot. Sunrays break the horizon, soaring into the sky on an exotic trail of Jasmine. Then, as shadows lengthen, the sun dips so the sky changes color. Warm Amber with just a hint of Musk, is the final fragrant echo as the sun sets for the day.
Recreate days of Cabana dreaming, from sunup to sundown with NO. 1012 and it's light, airy and uplifting aroma.

Blending Recommendations
People always ask, “How would you blend this”? I never tire of these questions because there are so many ways that you can blend NO. 1012.
Beginners can find it challenging to identify ‘gaps’ in the scent profile, but that’s just what I am here for! Identifying these gaps means you can fill them with new accords. You can create these new accords from harmonizing oils, made from fragrance oils, essential oils, or a combination of both.
Certain fragrance oils will make it easier to construct blending frameworks, than others. One fragrance oil may have many gaps, and some may have very few at all. There is usually somewhere to add your own unique twist and here there are plenty!
Blending NO. 1012
NO. 1012 is great for beginners to get to grips with because it is a relatively simplistic fragrance oil. There is plenty of space to develop a range of harmonizing accords with this fragrance oil. and to experiment widely.
The top notes are light and airy. They set the tone of the fragrance. The touch of citrus is super light. Citrus then meets Bergamot’s green notes, and that fresh salty marine aroma also joins the party.
The heart note is simple, pure and heady. Intoxicating Jasmine.
The base has the slightest touch of Musk and is rounded off beautifully with rich Golden Amber.
Top Notes
So how can you play with it? There are several things you can do.
Try enhancing the marine notes for a stronger sense of the ocean. Choose fragrances that have strong oceanic and ozone notes.
Add more citrus notes. You could go one of two ways. Either uplift and sharpen with Lime and/or Grapefruit, or soften with the orangier citruses like Mandarin Tangerine, or Sweet Orange,
Alternatively, you could introduce complementary florals. Spring flower scents would work amazingly here: go with Narcissus or Hyacinth. They are higher notes than the Jasmine, but would readily match its headiness.
Another option might be to lean more towards the masculine, by adding fresh greens like Basil. Also, citrus greens like Lemongrass and Citronella would give a more rounded effect.
Recap of Suggestions For Essential Oils
- Choose sharp, uplifting citrus notes, like Grapefruit and Lime, Or
- Go for the smoother aromas of Sweet Orange and Mandarin.
- Add a citrus green twist with Lemongrass or Citronella, Or
- Just go green with Sweet Basil.
Additional Suggestions for Fragrance Oils
- Notch up the marine notes and orange citrus with NO. 2100 - Inspired By: Breakline By Hollister.
Heart Notes
The heart note is deliciously simple with that intoxicating Jasmine aroma.
Jasmine can be paired with quite strong partners and hold their own without becoming overwhelmed, so you do have quite a lot of freedom here. Keep the overall balance of the original scent in mind.
Why not introduce more florals like Rose, Gardenia or Honeysuckle and ramp up femininity.
You could add in more herbal elements like Bay, Clary Sage and Fennel to add an unexpected element and quality to the fragrance.
How about warming things up by bringing in a little spice to the proceedings. To do this, be mindful to err on the more fruity side of the spices. Perhaps Pink and Black Pepper, Cardamom and Coriander. Be cautious of warming this up too much though… the original perfumer wanted you to be uplifted. So it might be best to avoid grounding it too much.
Recap of Suggestions for Essential Oils
- Ramp up the flowers with Rose, or Rose Geranium.
- Try Lavender for floral herbal notes.
- Talking of herbs, you could also try Clary Sage and Fennel.
- Spice things up with Coriander, Cardamom and Ginger.
Suggestions for Fragrance Oils
- Add a floral explosion with NO. 1402 - Inspired By: Citrine By Nest.
- Go green and spicy with NO. 1405 - Inspired By: Lemongrass & Ginger By Nest.
Base Notes
The base notes of Amber and a hint of Musk leave plenty of space for a twist of your own here too.
If you went for floral, herbal or green in the heart notes, stick with woody choices like Amyris and Cedarwood, or deepen it down with Oud.
If you choose a bit of spice you can double down on that here with Cinnamon.
Add creaminess and a comforting quality with Vanilla, but remember this may impact on that initial uplift by grounding it.
For a masculine touch, you could play with notes of Leather and Tobacco, but offset it by using plenty of citrus in the top notes.
Essential Oil Recommendations
- Woods bring warmth and sophistication try Amyris and Cedarwood.
- Play with warmth and spice with Vanilla Oleoresin and Cinnamon Bark.
Suggestions for Fragrance Oils
- Try the luscious depths of NO. 3100 - Inspired By: Tobacco Vanille By Tom Ford or NO. 39 - Genuine Leather.
- Alternating simply reinforces the delicious aroma of Amber with NO. 1200 - Inspired By: Ambre By Diptyque, it’s simply divine.
Final Blending Thoughts
These suggestions should give you plenty of ideas to ‘construct’ your blends and offer you harmonizing accords to experiment and play with.
Ask yourself what appeals to you most about this fragrance and try to preserve those elements. Is it the light airiness? The heady heart or the warm but ethereal base?
If you are not keen on the way the scent unfolds, change it! If you like the heart but feel it needs more, add something floral, herbal, green or spicy. If the base needs more richness add notes of wood, leather or tobacco.
Enjoy experimenting with NO. 1012, try it on its own or create bespoke blends with additional VINEVIDA fragrance oil and essential oils.

Follow This Blending Framework
Top Notes
Fragrance Notes |
Original Scent Profile | Ideal Companions |
---|---|---|
Top | Bergamot, Citrus, Marine | Bergamot, Pink Grapefruit, White Grapefruit, Kaffir Lime, Lemon, Lime, Mandarin, Sweet Orange, Tangerine, Yuzu Basil, Citronella, Lemongrass, Daffodil, Jonquil/Narcissus, Hyacinth Marine, Ozone, Sea Salt |
Heart | Jasmine | Black Pepper, Cardamom, Coriander, Ginger, Pink Pepper, Gardenia, Jasmine, Rose, Rose Geranium, Honeysuckle, Mimosa, Ylang Ylang, Angelica, Bay, Clary Sage, Dill, Hyssop, Fennel, Thyme, Ravensara, Rosemary, Copaiba Balsam, Palo Santo |
Base | Amber, Musk | Amber, Amyris, Cedarwood, Cinnamon, Leather, Oud, Sandalwood, Tobacco, Vanilla |
- With the top notes, you can add more citrus, either go sharp with yellow/green citrus or smoother with orange citrus tones.
- Consider introducing spring flower notes - certainly from yellow flowers like Daffodil and Narcissus.
- Introduce uplifting green notes for a cleaner, more refreshing rush. Try Basil or Lemongrass.
- Don’t forget you can ramp up the marine, oceanic and Sea Salt notes too.
Heart Notes
The heart space is beautifully simple with Jasmine. Go one of three ways, floral, green or spicy.
- Floral - Edge it towards super feminine with more heady florals, again yellow-toned Mimosa would be ideal if you went with spring flowers too. Go for Rose Geranium or Lavender if you went green in the top notes.
- Green - Ramp up the greenery in the heart space with herbal notes of Clary Sage, Ravensara and Fennel, it will bring uplift and a more rounded profile.
- Spicy - Alternatively, add some warming spice like Cardamom, Coriander or Ginger.
Base Notes
- In the base, flip it towards more masculine heart notes by adding warm spices like Cinnamon and deep, dark aromas of Leather and Tobacco for extra depth and intensity.
- A final flourish of Vanilla can bring comfort but also deadens the airiness of the overall profile, so introduce it with caution.
How To Work To the Best Effect
- Try and teach yourself to blend patiently. By this, I mean working a couple of drops at a time, then stopping to mix and test, it helps you to avoid making mistakes.
- Buy some cost-effective scent strips and gauge your blend using a scent strip. It makes a noticeable difference to evaluating your blends when you get them out of the bowl/bottle. You get a much better idea of the developing scent by working in this way.
- Remember that by following these guidelines, you have fewer chances to make potentially expensive mistakes. If you happen to be using costly essential oils and absolutes, this is vitally important.
- I fully appreciate it requires discipline and patience to work like this, but it is a fairly foolproof method. Consider this, you will be learning from my own rather costly mistakes.
- Avoid going nose blind and take a break every 20 minutes to give your nose a rest for at least 10 minutes.
- Generally, the key to the process is maintaining the balance of the original scent. By preserving the balance you improve your chances of success and can get some incredible results.
IFRA Guidelines for Diffuser Blends
Diffuser Blends appear under IFRA Category 12. In this category NO. 1012 fragrance oil carries no safety restrictions.
Method:
- Diffuser Blends are a great entry-level project. Have a go!
- Always read the recipe through.
- For those of you who want to build your blending skills, note the differing proportions used in the recipe. Over time, this builds your knowledge base and it always offers you extra clues in the process, which you can draw on in the future.
- Into a small measuring jug, carefully measure out all of your fragrance oils and/or essential oils. Combine by stirring well.
- Consider using a funnel to decant your diffuser blend, if you keep your bottle clean and oil free, it helps your label adhere more readily.
- Decant your diffuser blend into a 10ml dropper bottle.
- Never waste a drop of oil, expensive or otherwise and use a good quality silicone spatula to get every last drop of precious oil into your bottle.
- It’s good practice to get into the habit of labeling your bottles. After all, they present a safety hazard as they contain undiluted oil.
- On a waterproof and oil-proof label, list all of the ingredients used and date the label.
- For obvious safety reasons, mark clearly as ‘UNDILUTED’.
How To Use These Diffuser Blends:
- Always consult your individual manufacturer's instructions to get their specific guidance on your diffusers.
- You may need to dilute your blend, please follow the manufacturer's instructions.
- How To Use Vinevida Oils offers some generalized advice, where possible, always try to follow your manufacturer's instructions first.
