Ways To Use NO. 1005 Fragrance Oil

VINEVIDA stocks two different versions of this fragrance oil.

The Diffuser Fragrance Oils are intended for use only in Nebulizing and Cold Air Diffusers and therefore, should only be used for this purpose. If you have a Cold Air Diffuser this is the version you need to purchase NO. 1005- For Cold Air Diffusers.

VINEVIDA Soaps and Candles Fragrance Oil is designed and formulated to withstand the rigorous heat processes of making soaps and candles. Their resilience and persistent aromas are particularly suited to the processes of making perfume, skincare, and toiletries.

We take skincare seriously at VINEVIDA, None of our fragrance oils contain SLS, SLES, Parabens, or Phthalates. Our fragrance oils are never tested on animals either.

It makes logical sense to explore using fragrance oils in three distinct categories:

    • Topical Products
    • Scenting The Home
    • Diffusers and Candle Burners.

Topical Products

Topical Products

Always use the NO. 1005 Soaps and Candles fragrance oil variation to make products that will be used on the skin. This is what it is designed for!

VINEVIDA Soaps and candle fragrance oils excel when making skin care. They are specifically designed to retain their integrity in the production process. They withstand heat processes readily, making them very versatile when any base ingredients need to be heated or melted. Soaps and Candle fragrance oils are excellent for Beauty Balms, Body Butters, and Skin Salves.

VINEVIDA fragrance oils combine beautifully with natural ingredients and readily blend into different types of bases. Try making products with cosmetic butter, carrier oils, and candle waxes and put them through their paces.

It’s easy to create top-quality skin care products with VINEVIDA Soaps and Candles fragrance oils. You will be surprised at how much you can achieve in the comfort of your home kitchen.

Soap

VINEVIDA Soaps and candle fragrance oils are specifically formulated to withstand the high heat of the soap-making processes. They provide dependable results for both Melt and Pour Soap and Cold Process Soap.

NO. 1005 creates a refreshingly complex soap, perfect for any time of the day and placed anywhere in the home.

Take It To The Feminine Side

Make it more feminine by strengthening the florals in the top and middle notes. Try adding in Rose, Lavender, and Honeysuckle notes.

Try a blend of NO,1005 with NO. 43 - Honeysuckle & Jasmine and NO. 33 - Fresh Cut Roses.

Tip It To The Masculine Side

No. 1005 could be made more masculine by deepening with heady spices and deep, rich woods. Essential oil could do wonders here with their one-note fragrances. Try spices like  Cardamom, Nutmeg, and Ginger. Add rich smooth woods like Amyris and Cedarwood.

I think fragrance oils like NO. 3100 - Inspired By: Tobacco Vanille By Tom Ford and NO. 39 - Genuine Leather could add real depth, complexity, and an air of mystery. However, keep these at low ratios to avoid overpowering the beauty and vibrancy of NO. 1005.

Diffusers and Candle Burners

Diffusers and Candle Burners

Aromatherapy Candle Burners

VINEVIDA  NO. 1005 Soaps and Candles fragrance oil can be used in all types of aromatherapy candle burners.

Diffusers

You should NEVER use VINEVIDA Soaps and Candles Fragrance Oil in Cold Air or Nebulizing Diffusers. The fluid can block the fine nozzles because it is too thick and viscous for these types of diffusers.

VINEVIDA has created NO. 1005 DIFFUSER Fragrance Oil for your Nebulizing or Cold Air Diffusers.

It is always our recommendation to get specific guidance on your machine by consulting the manufacturer's instructions first.

Still Confused?

We know that when you first start using fragrance oils, it can be confusing. Especially so when trying to work out which one to use different diffusers. For extra guidance on various applications and which fragrance oils we recommend, consult How To Use VINEVIDA Oils.

Blending Recommendations

NO. 1005 is a wonderfully uplifting and refreshing fragrance oil, with a fresh oceanic greeting, white floral heart, and rich woody, musky base.

Personalize it and make it your own by experimenting and trying new blends. VINEVIDA Essential Oils and Fragrance Oils make splendid blending companions.

Fantastic Fragrance Companions

I like to ramp up the top notes with fresh florals like NO. 33 - Fresh Cut Roses and  NO. 42 - Honeysuckle. Really ramp up those smooth, rich base notes with Tobacco and Vanilla notes of  NO. 3100 and the deep almost animalic aroma of NO. 39 - Genuine Leather.

Essentially So

NO. 1005 blends beautifully with essential oils. Liven things up in the top notes with fresh, zesty citrus notes, err on the Orange side of things to compliment the Neroli.

Try Sweet Orange, Mandarin, or Tangerine. Add depth with smooth rich wood notes, like Amyris balsam and you could even try a fresh green pine scent to compliment the oceanic notes with Dwarf Pine.

Follow This Framework

    1. Balance the top notes with lightly floral and fruity notes and orange Citrus aromas or add in ozone and seaweed notes to ramp up the oceanic aspects of the overall fragrance.
    2. In the heart space stick with florals for a feminine finish and don’t be afraid to add a little of that fresh green Pine scent, don’t be too heavy-handed with it though.
    3. For masculine heart notes fruity spices like Cardamom and Nutmeg, which complement the citrus notes.
    4. Deepen down the base with smooth complex scents like Peru or Copaiba Balsams.
    5. Try balancing in rich, dark woods with Cedarwood and velvety Amyris with its sandalwood-like notes.
    6. If you or a family member are going through a time where you need to feel safer in your space and surroundings, add a dash of Vanilla Oleoresin or fragrance. Vanilla directly affects our limbic system, fostering feelings of comfort, safety, and security. It can be an invaluable tool in creating a safe space for your family, friends, and guests.
    7. Work one drop at a time, then stop to mix and test, when you work in this way it’s hard to go wrong!

Work Safe With IFRA

Diffuser Blends appear under IFRA Category 12  there are no safety restrictions in this category for NO. 1005 fragrance oil.

Within reason, you can use as much as you want but please bear in mind that you still need to find a happy balance and be sensible. More does not always mean better.

PLEASE NOTE: If you have a Cold Air Diffuser please use the DIFFUSER Fragrance Oil variation. The Soaps & Candles variation is too thick and should NEVER be used in these machines.

Method:

    1. Diffuser Blends are really easy to put together yourself at home.
    2. Into a small measuring jug, measure out the essential oils and fragrance oils given in the recipe blend.
    3. Mix them with a stainless steel spoon or a glass stirrer to combine them all together.
    4. Decant the oil blend into a 10ml dropper bottle using a funnel to keep the bottle clean and oil-free so your label adheres better.
    5. Use a quality silicone spatula to scrape out every last drop of oil from the jug and funnel. It minimizes waste, is more sustainable, and gets your money’s worth while caring for the planet one drop at a time.
    6. Use an oil-proof label, clearly list all ingredients and you MUST also label your bottle as ‘UNDILUTED’,  for obvious safety reasons.

How To Use Our Diffuser Blends:

    1. Always read your manufacturer's instructions for your diffusers, for specific guidance, please.
    2.  Dilute your blend to suit your individual diffuser, if you are instructed to do so.

What Are We Making This Week Tash?

This week, we are working with the refreshing, vibrant, and floral notes of NO. 1005. Fresh, yet complex, we can capitalize on those clean, airy, oceanic aspects of this oil, but also ramp up that floral heart and the sublime base notes.

First, we are going to create a luxurious Meditation Candle, perfect for kicking back, relaxing, and de-stressing. Add a handful of crystals for an extra energy boost and to instill peace and calm.

Our second recipe this week is really decadent and luxurious Sand & Salt Scrub. I was inspired looking at all the frankly amazing spa treatments at the hotels. It fired up the creativity to create something completely sublime for you all. You’ll love this one.

Meditation Candle

Meditation Candle

Light this candle and relax, let go, and drift into your center. Align your energy and boost wellness with this beautifully scented Meditation Candle.

NO. 1005 in IFRA Category 12 has no maximum safety restrictions. This means you can use as much as you like, but we recommend 1 fl oz per 1lb of wax. Though light fragrance oils with ethereal top notes may need a little more.

You Will Need:

    1. Disposable covering for your surfaces, like a newspaper.
    2. A double boiler or an old saucepan and an empty tin can - must not be used for food.
    3. Disposable stirrer.
    4. Heatproof candle glasses or molds.
    5. Candle wicks of your choice, in the right size for your mold.
    6. Candlewick holders and adhesive.
    7. Candlewick centering tool (or use a pencil or stick).

Meditation Candle Ingredients:

Optional Ingredients:

    • The colorant of your choice, make sure it is suitable for wax-based products
    • For crystal tumble stones or nuggets, we suggest Clear Quartz, Rose Quartz, and Amethyst.

Safety:

    • Use appropriate heat-proof gloves when working with molten wax.
    • Protect your surfaces.

Instructions:

Set Up and Preparation
    • Prepare your workspace and cover your surfaces with newspaper or a disposable covering. Trust me, having to clean up spilled wax is not fun.
    • Before you start, just take a quick inventory and check you have everything to hand. You are going to have to work relatively quickly once you start.
Melting The Wax
    • Get your double boiler ready, if you don't have one you can only use for wax, use a scrupulously clean tin can in an old saucepan, again, one you will not use for food. If you are using a tin can, you only want the water to come halfway up the tin can.
    • Once you have it ready to go, set it over low to medium heat to preheat a little.
    • As soon as it has warmed through, add your wax. However if it seems to be taking a while to melt, turn the heat up just a fraction. Your wax should melt easily and readily.
    • Break up any lumps or clumps of wax to help it melt more evenly.
    • Don’t be afraid to help it along and give it a good stir. Use a disposable stirrer to make life easier.
    • You can use the time you are waiting for the wax to melt, to securely anchor your wicks to the bottom of your candle glass or mold.
    • It is important to use an appropriate adhesive that won’t dislodge the minute you add hot wax! Of course, please do not use wax; it will simply melt when you add more molten wax and your sustainer will float to the top along with your wick!
    • Your candles will burn more evenly and efficiently if your wick is perfectly aligned with the center of the candle glass or mold. You can use a centering tool or a long pencil.
    • Take the time to get it straight at this point, or it will not burn evenly.
Cooling and Adding Fragrance & Essential Oils
    • As soon as your wax is molten, remove it from the heat and separate the bowl from the hot water.
    • If you leave the wax to cool for a time it helps to preserve the integrity of the essential oils, high heat can sometimes degrade them and we want to avoid that.
    • Leave the wax to cool for a few minutes and then add in your NO. 1005 fragrance oil and essential oils. Mix thoroughly for a couple of minutes to combine fully.
Pouring Molten Wax
    • Set your candle glasses where you can leave them to set for a few hours or even overnight. You don’t want to be moving hot candle glasses full of molten wax. Just don’t!
    • Grab your heat-protective gloves.
    • You get a better-looking and more dense candle when you pour the molten wax in a very slow, steady stream. Do not rush this.
    • It is worth mentioning that if you are filling candle glasses, avoid getting drips on the glass. It can be stupendously hard to thoroughly clean wax from the glass after the fact. Therefore, work slowly, and steadily and try to avoid any slips and drips. You’ll thank me in the end, I promise.
    • Carefully pour your molten wax into the candle glasses or molds, taking care not to overfill your candle glass, jar, or mold, and avoid slips and drips if you can.
    • You now want the candles to set for a few hours until they set solid. If you have used a big mold, you will need to wait overnight before demolding it.
Adding Crystal Nuggets
    • When the surface of your candle is almost solid, but still has a little softness and give, push your crystal nuggets into the surface of the candle.
    • Don’t put any too close to the wick, allow at least 1.5cm between the wick and a crystal.  Bear in mind that if stones get too hot they can explode, so practice some caution eh? You may want to cover the whole surface…. But please….don’t do it!
How To Trim the Wick
    • Your wick can be trimmed to size as soon as the candle is fully set. However, it is best left until it is fully cured, usually within 24-36 hours.
    • Trim the wick above the rim of the candle glass or jar, and then trim to 1.5cm before its first lighting.
Cleaning Up and Safe Disposal of Wax
    • Now don’t get ahead of yourself, sometimes when candles are set they can sink back a little. Therefore, don’t dispose of any excess wax just yet. It is worth waiting and checking how your candles have set. Keep any excess for potential top-ups.
    • If you have a lot left it can be used for lots of other projects. Use any leftover wax melts and drawer and closet sachets.
    • Dispose of any leftover wax by pouring it into a disposable container, like a muffin case. I find even small bits of leftover wax can be useful. I use leftovers for conditioning sewing thread, making curtain hooks slide better on their tracks, and lubricating stiff zippers. Try and think up your sustainable uses.
    • Under NO circumstances should you pour wax down the drain; it will set in the pipes and block your drain.

How To Use Your Meditation Candle Safely

When you meditate you usually have your eyes shut, so these guidelines are doubly important!

    1. Always practice caution when lighting candles.
    2. Place them out of reach of pets and children, on fireproof candle plates, out of the way of breezes and draughts from open doors and windows.
    3. Never leave burning candles unattended.
    4. Do not burn this in a home where cats are present due to the Mandarin Essential Oil content.

Can You Not Smell Your Candle Anymore?

If you cannot smell it anymore it is not because the candle has stopped working or putting out fragrance. Your brain simply stopped processing the scent! It’s not the candle, it’s your brain and you’ve gone nose blind.

It’s easy to go nose blind and not be able to smell the fragrance anymore, so try not to use them for too long at once. Perhaps, light the candle for an hour or so, then extinguish and relight it again after 30-60 minutes. Lo and behold, you’ll be able to smell it again!

Skyfall Sand & Salt Scrub

Skyfall Sand & Salt ScrubNO. 1005 is such an uplifting and vibrant fragrance that just brings you joy and makes your heart lift. I wanted to create a super luxurious Salt Scrub that will leave your skin feeling buffed, smoothed, and velvety soft. But I also want it to leave you feeling refreshed, renewed, and like you have had a real spa treat.

There are some ingredients in this that stretch the purse strings a little, don’t worry you can substitute some ingredients and still have a super luxurious product for yourself. I’ll try and point out substitutions as we go.

IFRA Safety and Guidelines

In  IFRA Category 9 -  NO. 1005 Soaps and Candles fragrance oil has a maximum safety dilution recommendation of just 5%. This means you cannot use more than 5ml of NO. 1005 in 100ml of Skyfall Salt Scrub.

There is no option on the VINEVIDA calculator for Sand and Salt Scrub so use the ‘Liquid Soap’ option, it will work out the correct safety data in the right category for you with those settings.

A Note About Sand

This recipe calls for sand, try and get cosmetic-grade sand if you can. Your sand needs to be perfectly clean, and preferably sterile.

Yes, I can see the cogs working and you thinking about the bags of sand intended for kids' sand pits! As far as I am aware, it has to be sterile for kids. I can’t professionally recommend it, but I can’t stop you either. If I had it, would I use it? Probably!

Those of you living near a beach, think twice, it’s full of all manner of things you cannot see or might want to! If I cannot persuade you otherwise, at least work safely. Please sieve it using an ultra-fine sieve and then boil it for at least ten minutes at a rolling boil. Drain, and dry fully before using.

Do NOT use wet sand, it will encourage the formation of mold and bacteria. Your sand needs to be totally dry.

You Will Need:

    1. Mixing Bowl
    2. Measuring Jug
    3. Measuring Spoons
    4. Silicone Spatula
    5. Stainless Steel Spoon
    6. Jar Funnel
    7. 250 ml /8.45 fl oz Airtight wide-mouthed Glass Jar (Can you get your hand in it?)
    8. Label

Ingredients:

To make 250 ml of Skyfall Sand and Salt Scrub you need equal amounts of dry and wet ingredients. In this case about 8 tablespoons of each.

You also need approximately 15 ml of Fragrance Oil and Essential Oil blend. (Remember, if you are changing the oil blend from what is given here, the safety considerations change, so you need to check your IFRA data).

8 tbsp of dry ingredients comprised of:
    • 2 tbsp of Clean, refined, preferably cosmetic, Sand.
    • 3 tbsp of Fine ground Sea Salt or Pink Himalayan Salt (or a mix of both - do not use table salt).
    • 2 tbsp of Fine ground Date Sugar or Light Brown Sugar.
    • 1 tbsp of Rhassoul Red Clay or other Cosmetic Clay.
8 tbsp of wet ingredients comprised of:

Fragrance Oil and Essential Oil Blend

Optional:  Preservative - follow your individual manufacturer's guidance.

Safety:

    • Do not use this during pregnancy at all.

Method:

    1. If you want to add a preservative, consult your manufacturer's instructions for specific guidance.
    2. Measure out your wet ingredients into the measuring jug.
    3. Add your Fragrance Oils and Essential Oils to the wet ingredients and stir well to combine thoroughly.
    4. Measure out of your dry ingredients into the mixing bowl.
    5. Slowly pour in the wet ingredients into the bowl, stirring thoroughly as you go.
    6. Mix it until it is all evenly combined and there are no clumps of dry ingredients.
    7. Using a jar funnel, decant into the jar and clean the rim meticulously with a dab of white vinegar.
    8. Label the jar, with a water and oil-proof label, listing all of the ingredients clearly for safety reasons.

How to Use:

    1. Please do a 24- 48 hour patch test before using it on your body.
    2. It’s best to use a wooden scoop to get this out of the jar. It stops bacteria from your fingers being introduced into the jar.
    3. This is so rich and luxurious that we don’t recommend using it any more than 1-2 times a week.
    4. Work the scrub into your skin, being gentle on softer areas of skin and firmer over hard skin on hands, feet, knees, and elbows. Avoid your intimate areas though, please!
    5. You can leave it on your skin for a few minutes for clay to get to work pulling toxins from your skin, or you can rinse immediately with clean, warm water.
    6. Work any excess oil into the skin, alternatively, if it feels too oily, rinse with soapy water, or blot with a paper towel, tissue, or a soft cotton cloth.

Not Sure What IFRA is?

Often, in our Oil Of The Month articles, we talk about IFRA standards and their maximum safety dilutions. Please don’t panic when you see this! We show you how to source the information you need in How To Find Safety Information On The VINEVIDA Website. It makes it very easy with a simple step-by-step guide.

The Final Word

The Final Word

It has been a fresh and vibrant month working with NO. 1005 Fragrance Oil.

I have loved the airy and refreshing Ocean notes melding with those sweet and zingy Orange notes and those wisps of lusciously juicy green Melon.

Indole reigns supreme in the heart notes with those heady and intoxicating white flowers. Neroli and Jasmine bloom heartily and burst with exotic splendor.

Those florals sink down into smooth rich notes of Cedarwood, comforting Vanilla, and the swansong of sultry notes of Musk for a suave and complex finish.

It is a vibrant fragrance oil and is very popular here at VINEVIDA for those bright refreshing notes that burst into heady florals and deepen into rich, smooth woods.
